Travel

  • From Tokyo (Haneda), Osaka, Nagoya, and Shanghai (Hongqiao):
  • It is most convinient to use Gimpo Airport (GMP) (Seoul) from the these cities to arrive in Gwangju.

    1. From Gimpo Airport to Gwangju Airport (KWJ)

There are frequent flights from Gimpo airport to Gwangju airport. Please visit Asiana Airline or Korean Airline for more information.

    2. From Gwangju Airport to Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST)

Take a taxi to arrive at Oryong Hall, GIST. It takes about 30 minutes and costs about 10,000 KRW.

  • From Shanghai (Pudong):
  • China Eastern airline provides flight services from Pudong to Muan Airport, which is the closest international airport to Gwangju. From Muan Airport, please take a taxi to GIST. It takes about 50 minutes and costs 40,000 KRW.

  • From all other cities:
  • Please arrive in Seoul, Korea through Incheon Int'l Airport (ICN). From Incheon Int'l Airport to Gwangju, you can use 1) a domestic flight, 2) express bus, or 3) KTX (express railway). We do not recommend using KTX because it requires too many transits. For a flight, you need to take a bus or a railway (about 40 minutes) to Gimpo Airport, where you can take flights to Gwangju Airport. Refer to the directions "From Tokyo (Haneda), Osaka, Nagoya, and Shanghai (Hongqiao)" above. For express bus, please follow the direction below:

    1. From Incheon Int'l Airport (ICN) to Gwangju Express Bus Terminal

There is an express bus service from Incheon International Airport to Gwangju Express Bus Terminal. Bus starts every 30~60 minutes from 6:50 am to 10:40 pm. It takes about 4 hr 30 min and costs 30,900 KRW. The bus stop number is 9C, 1st floor. Note that you must take a but to go to Gwangju in Jeonra-do(province), NOT Gwangju in Gyeonggi-do. Please refer to this document for transportation between Incheon Airport and Gwangju Bus Terminal. For more information provided from Incheon Airport website, click here. Also, please note that express bus is not equipped with toilets, but it stops at a service area once during the travel.

    2. From Gwangju Express Bus Terminal to Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST)

It is most convenient to take a taxi to arrive at GIST. It takes about 20 minutes and costs about 10,000 KRW.
